Job Description:

The Irrigation Maintenance Technician is responsible for the operation, repair, and maintenance of the campus irrigation systems. This role ensures that Creighton's landscaped areas are properly watered and maintained to promote a safe, attractive, and sustainable environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Although the primary focus of this role is irrigation system operation, maintenance, and repair, the technician will also perform general groundskeeping duties as needed, contributing to overall campus maintenance.

  System Maintenance and Repair
  * Modify irrigation system operation according to campus landscape designs.
  * Perform routine inspections of irrigation systems to identify leaks, clogs, or malfunctioning components.
  * Repair and replace broken pipes, valves, sprinkler heads, and controllers
  System Operation
  * Program and adjust irrigation controllers to optimize water usage and meet seasonal needs.
  * Monitor and maintain proper water pressure and flow across systems.
  * Ensure compliance with local water usage regulations and sustainability initiatives.
  Preventive Maintenance
  * Conduct regular system checks to prevent costly repairs and water waste.
  * Maintain an inventory of parts and supplies for timely repairs.
  * Perform winterization and spring activation of irrigation systems to ensure seamless operation.
  Collaboration and Support
  * Coordinate irrigation schedules with landscaping and maintenance activities.
  * Provide technical expertise and training to staff on irrigation system use and troubleshooting.
  * Respond promptly to emergency repair requests and irrigation-related issues.
  Documentation and Reporting
  * Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and system modifications.
  * Prepare reports on water usage and system performance to support sustainability goals.
  General Groundskeeping/ Landscaping Duties
  * Perform groundskeeping and landscaping tasks as needed.
  * Assist with weather-related events such as snow removal, flooding, and wind damage cleanup.
  
  Qualifications
  
  • 
    
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    
  • Certification in irrigation technology or landscape maintenance preferred.
    
  • Minimum of two years of experience in irrigation system installation, operation, and maintenance.
    
    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
    
    • 
      
    • Knowledge of irrigation system components, including sprinklers, drip systems, valves, and controllers.
      
    • Familiarity with water conservation techniques and best practices.
      
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
      
    • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical components of irrigation systems.
      
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
      
    • General groundskeeping and landscaping experience, including snow removal.
      
    • Ability to work in all weather conditions and handle physically demanding tasks.
      
    • Availability for on-call responsibilities during weather-related emergencies with a one-hour response time.
      
      Licenses/Certifications:

      • Certification in irrigation technology or landscape maintenance is preferred.
